Overview

In this project I created an elearning experience for new employees at Milton Imaging - an MRI imaging specialist.

The learning experience covered the dangers of metal exposure, the MRI zones, and a scenario to practice patient pre-screening.

Process

Designing engaging learning experiences is a process I take seriously and put a lot of effort into. It begins with identifying learning objectives, creating a learning map, and a storyboard.

Read below for greater detail on my development process for this project.

Process

How I Do What I Do

Identifying The Problem

Milton Imaging is opening a new facility and will be hiring a large volume of new staff members. It is imperative that these new staff members are familiar with the dangers of metal in the presence of an MRI, safety protocols in each MRI zone, and can effectively pre-screen patients.

Learning Objectives

These learning objectives guided the creation of this learning experience:

  • Explain the essential hazards of MRI exposure to the human body when metal is present.

  • Distinguish the safety risks present within each zone (I-IV) of the MRI suite.

  • Follow established protocol to prepare and screen patients for their MRI.

Rough Draft

After having learning objectives in place, I began creating a rough draft directly in Articulate Storyline.

First I did a general layout of what I wanted, followed by various visual mockups for each slide and the general layout and feel.

I decided to go with a simple, clean design so as to not add unnecessary cognitive load.

Final Touches and Assessing Knowledge Transfer

The overarching goals of this training were for employees to be able to describe each MRI zone and to practice pre-screening patients.

After finishing the storyboard in Articulate Storyline, I went in and added all of the triggers, animations, and variables to allow for interactivity and learner engagement.

To assess for the desired learning outcomes, I utilized a drag and drop for the MRI zones and a branching scenario for the pre-screening.
